National Pastoral Planners Network

The NPPN Executive serves the National Pastoral Planners Network whose purpose is to promote and strengthen a culture of planning for mission and evangelisation within the Catholic Church in Oceania. We engage pastoral research and best practices in church growth to offer experience, knowledge, resources and processes that enable dioceses and parishes to advance the mission of Jesus Christ under the guidance of the Spirit.

Update from the Broken Bay Diocese

6. Broken Bay DiocesePastoral life certainly does not slow down whilst the Diocese of Broken Bay awaits the appointment of a new bishop. Recent developments in the diocese include the completion of a renewed diocesan sacramental program that will be launched by the Fr Vince Casey, our diocesan administrator at the end of August, following a 12 month pilot.

Scripture is an ongoing priority of the Diocese and reflected in a focus on ensuring a plentiful supply of bibles, supplementary resources and various formation opportunities. In September 2014, the Broken Bay Institute will host a conference, The Gospel of John: Joy Made Complete (PDF with information here) with keynote speakers including Fr Francis Moloney SDB and Dr Mary Coloe PBVM.

Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium has also been an ongoing theme of focus with supportive resources being developed to encourage lay engagement with this landmark document.  Broader resources being made available at present include a growing digital collection of adult faith formation seminars including the titles, Who is Jesus and Why is He Important? and What role does the Church have in my understanding of Jesus?

The Diocese continues to support various marriage preparation and enrichment programs including FOCCUS, Partners for Life, Worldwide Marriage Encounter and Smart Loving by providing subsidies for couples wishing to participate. Staff accredited in the FertilityCare method also allows the Diocese to provide consultation services in addition to the Natural Family Planning education opportunities that are available.
